Ortho-k versus LASIK

Ortho-k works is aptly suited for people who dislike wearing glasses or contact lenses during the day. They need only to wear specialized lenses in the night, during which the cornea adjusts and reshapes for a clearer and crisper vision for the next day.

Thus, if you do no mind wearing contacts for a few hours while sleeping then Ortho-k is a good alternative for you. However, if you wish to completely eliminate the hassle of contact lenses altogether, then a more radical approach of surgery is required. LASIK is one such good alternative.

Ortho-k is also better for people who suffer from dry eyes. It's been found that this condition is sometimes worsened by LASIK.

Ortho-k is a reversible procedure while LASIK is not.

You can opt for LASIK even after going through the Ortho-k treatment. However, for a few weeks before surgery, you will be required by your surgeon to stop wearing lenses, to ensure that the cornea has reverted to its natural shape.

Ortho-k treats both eyes at the same time. In LASIK, you have to perform the surgery on one eye at a time.

LASIK is more expensive than Ortho-k. For a few days after LASIK, you may still experience some hazy vision. Ortho-k offers clearer and crisper vision.
